Zane and Ryhs Reid, McTyson, Richardson, and Stewart put stamp on the All Jamaica Junior Championships

All Jamaica Junior Championship 2015

The All Jamaica Junior Badminton Championships will conclude Monday starting at 6:30pm.  The following Finals will be showcased: U17 Girls and Boys Singles, U 19 Girls and Boys Singles and U19 Boys Doubles.

Play continued yesterday evening with the Finals in the lower age-group events. Triumphant was Caribbean champion of the  U13 Boys Singles and Boys Doubles, Zane Reid, who stamped his authority on the same events in the All Jamaica Junior Championships with partner Tijae Hinds. In the U13 Boys Singles, Reid defeated doubles partner, Tijae Hinds,  21-6, 21-6. He then  partnered with Hinds to defeat Marlon Hines and Romaine Cole in the U13 Boys Doubles, 21-15, 21-16.  Reid continued his prowess in the U15 age group where he partnered with big brother Rhys Reid, to capture the U15 Boys Doubles Event, defeating Marlon Hinds and Adam Taylor 21-5, 21-4.

Not be out-done by little bother, Rhys Reid won the U15 Boys Singles title, defeating Adam Taylor 21-11, 21-10.  Shezelle McTyson was the star for the U15 girls.  McTyson won Girls Singles U15 beating Tahlia Richardson 21-8, 21-16, and paired with Adam Taylor to secure the U15 Mixed Doubles title, defeating Stephanie Brown and Mikhail Williams in straight sets.  Tahlia Richardson and Stephanie Brown won the Girls U15 Doubles Champion, defeating Oberlin High’s pair of Briana Boogle and Aaliyah Henry, 21-4, 21-7 . Richardson will have another opportunity to challenge McTyson as they square off in the U17 Girls Final this evening. Both of these girls have the opportunity to equal Zane Reids triple title feat.

In the match of the evening, the continued rivalry of the Aundre Brown / Andre Stewart in the U11 Boys’ Singles, was put on display. The highly contested and emotional match, captured the hearts of the audience as Andre Stewart prevailed after a tight three set match, defeating Aundre Brown, 22-20, 19-21, 21-19.

In U17 Boy Doubles Justin Taylor paired with Ashane Newland, staved off the challenge from younger brother Adam Taylor paired with Isaac Roberts, winning the match 21-17, 21-17.
Tahlia Richardson and Malik Brown took the U17 Mixed Doubles Championship defeating Isaac Roberts and Shantae Smith 21-15, 21-9.

In the U19 mixed doubles, Iesha Gordon and Shaquille Palmer were triumphant over Karie Dawson and Jerome Henry, 21-5, 21-5. Shane Wilson, (U17 Pan Am Bronze medallist in the U17 Boys Singles Event), continued his dominance in the U19 Boys Singles to secure a spot in the Finals against silver medallist in the U19 CAREBACO International, Matthew Lee, this evening. Other final matches tonight include the U17 Boys Singles, U17 girls singles, U19 Girls Singles and U19 Boys Doubles.
