The finals of the Tournament of Kings concluded this evening at the Constant Spring Golf Club.
In the Open Men’s Singles Event, tall and lanky, number one seed, Che Beckford faced off against the diminutive, but irrepressible Shane Wilson, the number 4 seed, who disposed of number 6 and number 2 seeds on his way to the finals.
In the match which was keenly contested, Wilson raced ahead to an early lead at 11-8. Beckford rallied back to trail Wilson 11-12, but Wilson easily finished the game 21-14. In the second game, the tables were turned with Beckford managing to inch his way to a 21-17 victory, taking the match to a third game. After a ding dong battle for the lead at the start of the third game, Wilson managed to secure the game, the match and the crown, 21-15.
In the Open Women’s Singles match, Katherine Wynter, once again confirmed her number one status, after a hard fought three set match, against long time opponent, and number 2 seed, Ruth Williams, 21-17, 18-21 and 21-15.
In the B division, number 2 seed, Jemarey Gordon, secured his title with a 21-17, 21-13 victory over Kenneth Anglin. The B ladies singles title went to top seed, Alana Bailey, who cooly dispatched second seed, Taina Daley, with a 21-19, 26-24 scoreline.
